The Pains of Being Pure at Heart

History

The band was founded by Alex Naidu, Kip Berman, Kurt Feldman, and Peggy Wang in 2007, the band's name is taken from the title of a short story that has authored a friend of Berman. Originally intended as a fun project for a birthday party of Wang, the band released already in the same year, a self-titled EP on the record label Painbow. In the subsequent time they played a wide variety of concerts, sometimes only 3-5 people before, and so increased their brand awareness in the local scene. The band also achieved increased awareness about web logs, such as an art blog of the New York Times. Internationally, it attracted attention, as Pitchfork Media reported on the ribbon in the Best New Music category. In 2009 they released their first studio album finally The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, now on the bigger label Slumberland Records. The album was rated by the international music press overwhelmingly positive. This was followed by tours in America and Europe and the release of the EP Higher than the stars.
