The suffering of Christ is a British mini- drama series which was produced by the BBC and HBO Films in association with Deep Indigo Productions. It tells the story of the last week in the life of Jesus Christ. After the success of the passion play shown on TV Manchester Passion was made in 2006 from the producer Peter Fincham, the announcement of the series.
The role of Jesus Christ, played by Joseph Mawle. Other leading roles were played by Paloma Baeza ( Mary Magdalene ), Ben Daniels ( Caiaphas ), James Nesbitt ( Pontius Pilate ), David Oyelowo (Joseph of Arimathea ) and Penelope Wilton ( Mary). The film was shot from August 27 to October 23 in Morocco, directed by Michael Offer.
Action
The depending upon counting four and six-part series centers on the last days of Jesus' life. The time extends from Jesus ' arrival in Jerusalem on Palm Sunday at the sentencing Jesus to operate out of Caiaphas, the subsequent Last Supper and the Crucifixion to the Resurrection. Writer Frank Deasy and producer Nigel Stafford -Clark intention was from the beginning to solve the " shackles " of classic films of that substance. They did this by placing them in the film adaptation of the role of Pontius Pilate and Caiaphas enlarged and also took up the history of the politics of Judea. Research assistance received Deasy and Stafford -Clar by Mark Doodacre with which they jointly wrote the backstory. At the end of the series Caiaphas ' woman gives birth to a son, and Pilate returns with his wife to Caesarea Maritima.
Broadcast
The first broadcast took place in four episodes divided by 16 until 23 March 2008 at the British broadcaster BBC One. The broadcast reached ranges from 3.2 to 4.9 million viewers and was reacted favorably by critics. In Germany the first broadcasts took place from 13 March to 27 March 2013 double episodes on Sky Atlantic HD. In contrast to the broadcast in the UK, the first and third episode on Sky Atlantic HD into 2 episodes will be shown to 30 minutes each period.
