The Rascals

The Rascals (formerly The Young Rascals ) were an American soul and pop band that was popular in the 1960s.

Felix Cavaliere played in 1964, Gene Cornish, Eddie Brigati and Dino Danelli in the club band Felix & the Escorts. After Sid Bernstein had become her manager the same year, they called themselves The Young Rascals. Thanks Bernstein received the Young Rascals a contract with Atlantic Records in 1965 and could occur in the opening act of the Beatles.

Already their debut album, The Young Rascals in 1966 reached No. 15 on the U.S. charts and was quoted 84 weeks in the charts. On the album were still only cover versions of songs by other artists heard. But already the next successes offered mostly material Cavaliere and Brigati had written. Between 1966 and 1968 many Young Rascals songs were big hits, the most famous among them are probably Good Lovin ' (1966 ), Groovin', A Girl Like You ' (1967) and People Got To Be Free ( 1968). In 1968 was also the shortening of the band name to The Rascals.

Despite experienced studio guests such as King Curtis, Chuck Rainey and David Newman, the 1969 double album Freedom Suite received miserable reviews. After the 1971 album Search and Nearness Brigati and Cornish left then the Rascals, who transferred in 1971 to Columbia Records. As a replacement came Howard "Buzz" Feiten and Robert Popwell and singers Ann Sutton and Molly Holt. But it did not go well with the new line, after two further LP releases, the band split in 1972.

1988 there was a reunion of the Rascals with Cavaliere, Danelli and Cornish, however, emerged from the only a few concerts. Finally, in 1989 litigation arose about the rights to the band name: Danelli and Cornish sued Cavaliere, the re The Young Rascals wanted to call his new band. The court ruled that Danelli and Cornish may be called from now on The New Rascals, while Cavaliere with Formerly Of The Young Rascals had to settle. The success in court Danelli and Cornish, however, did not produce the slightest, because there was no disk publication of the New Rascals.

1997 added the ( Young) Rascals into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
