The Man Called Horse - Part 2 ( The Return of a Man Called Horse ) is an American film drama from 1976, and a sequel to the film A Man Called Horse. Directed by Irvin Kershner, screenplay by Jack DeWitt.

Action

The action takes place in the 1840s. The English aristocrat John Morgan returns to his homeland. After some time he travels again to the Lakota Indians, with whom he lived in the first part of the film. He and a boy survive a test of courage, which is that the chest muscles is tied with cords to a stake ( Sun Dance ). One has to free himself by tearing the pectoral muscles.

It comes to fighting between the Indians and the white settlers, in which Morgan leads the Indians. The Indian village is burned to the ground, whereupon the master pulls away. A text informed at the end that Morgan remained until his death in 1854 with the Indians.

Reviews

Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun - Times 19 August 1976, the sequel is a " study of self-indulgence " ( " a study in self -indulgence "). The plot is - compared to the film length - "thin", what the " ominous " music that try to make the events more important, would not change anything.

" First of all, endeavor to historical accuracy, the film eventually developed but the praises of the virtues of the white man, who appears as a savior figure at the end. "

Background

The film was shot in Custer State Park in South Dakota, in England and in Mexico.

George Lucas said after seeing the film that he was better than the first film. Consequently, it was Irvin Kershner as director of The Empire Strikes Back obliged.
