The Rippingtons

The Rippingtons are an American fusion band that has evolved in the direction of Smooth Jazz. The quintet was formed in 1986 by guitarist Russ Freeman in Los Angeles.

The band was initially an all-star ensemble, Freeman called together to record the album Moonlighting. After this album was very commercially successful, Freeman verstetigte the band. In the past, the group saxophonist Eric Marienthal, Paul Taylor, Jeff Kashiwa, Brandon Fields, Dave Koz and Kenny G, the keyboardist Gregg Karukas, Dave Kochanski, David Benoit, Tom McMorran and Mark Portmann, the bassist Kim Stone and Steve Bailey were and the drummer Tony Morales, David Anderson and Dave Hooper on. For the recordings, the quintet was amplified by percussionist Scott Breadman like, Ray Yslas and Steve Reid. In Japan tours, the band has also collaborated with Sadao Watanabe.

The album Black Diamond reached # 1 at Billboard. The title track of their album Let It Ripp was also a hit.

In recent years, the group has also taken up Latin influences, which can be heard about on their album Wild Card, are involved in the guest musicians such as Willy Chirino, Chante Moore and Albita. Their album Modern Art was nominated in December 2009 for a Grammy in the category "Best Pop Instrumental Album".
