The Ruby Suns

The Ruby Suns are an indie pop band from Auckland, New Zealand.

Band History

The band originated in 2004 after Ryan McPhun, a native Californian who had moved to Auckland, had supplied numerous musical contributions locally with bands like The Brunettes and The Tokey Tones and now wanted to form their own band. Initially called the formation McPhun Ryan & the Ruby Suns and included as an additional band members Amee Robinson and Imogen Taylor. In 2005, the band from the small label Lil ' Chief Records was signed and brought her self-titled debut album out in the same year. 2006, the group shortened its name to The Ruby Suns. In spring 2007 the band undertook their first European tour to promote their debut. The European sales had taken over the label Memphis Industries. In the second half of an extended Australian tour as the opening act was followed by the Shins. 2007, it had become aware in the U.S. on the band, so that the well-known independent label Sub Pop took the group under contract. In the same year, the band released a series of singles and EPs. Followed in 2008 with Sea Lion the second studio album by the band. In 2010, the band released Fight Softly as a third studio album.
