The Seldom Seen Kid

The Seldom Seen Kid (Eng. The seldom seen kid ) is the fourth studio album by British band Elbow. It was awarded the 2008 Mercury Prize for the best British music album. With over 600,000 units sold in the UK alone Elbow succeeded for the first time a commercial success.

Genesis

The Seldom Seen Kid is the first album that Elbow have completely self-produced. The predecessor album Leaders of the Free World, the group had started on their own, but needed to end but outside support. The songs the group composed directly in the studio. In the most successful single from the album Grounds for Divorce is the death of a friend of the band, Bryan Glancy, processed from the music scene of Manchester. Publications

The Seldom Seen Kid was released on Fiction Records on 17 March 2008 in the UK and on 25 April in Germany. Geffen Records released it on April 22, 2008 in the USA. As of 10 July 2009, the album was available in a special version with two additional songs Hotel Istanbul and Lullaby.

17 January 2009 Elbow played the whole album with the concert orchestra of the BBC and the London Chamber Choir Chantage at Abbey Road Studios, a new. Nick Ingham arranged The Seldom Seen Kid for the 52- piece orchestra and 20 -strong choir. The management of the musicians was Mike Dixon. Richard Hawley came briefly for the performance of The Fix it.

Some songs on the album were first listed on this evening before a live audience. The one-hour recording has been available since 30 March 2009, together with a DVD under the title The Seldom Seen Kid Live at Abbey Road. The term of the CD is different because of short announcements and applause from the audience by a few minutes from the studio recording. The DVD contains the recording of the event, an additional audio track with comments of all members of Elbow and the music video for One Day Like This.

Chart Awards and achievements

The biggest chart success achieved The Seldom Seen Kid in Ireland and the UK. In the local top 75 album charts, it keeps up with several entrances cons 132 weeks, or about two and a half years (January 2012). On 21 November 2008, the British Phonographic Industry recorded the album after the first 300,000 units sold from the platinum record. After further 300,000 sales the album went double platinum in 2009 on April 24.

Already for her debut album, Asleep in the Back Elbow 2001 were nominated for the Mercury Prize. But only with The Seldom Seen Kid finally won on 9 September 2008, the award for Best British Album.
