The Sign is a pop song by the Swedish band Ace of Base in 1993, which became a chart hit another of the band. Music and lyrics come from Jonas Berggren and Ulf Ekberg, producers were Douglas Carr, Jonas Berggren and Denniz PoP.

Publication and success

The song was released end of October 1993 in Germany, the USA and Great Britain until the beginning of 1994, and became a worldwide hit. It also appeared on the album Happy Nation, which was released in the U.S. under the title The Sign. After a few weeks, the single from the album The Sign Place two peaked in the UK charts, number one in Germany and Austria and for six uninterrupted weeks number one in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 The Sign was the first number -one hit for Ace of base in the USA. It was also the first single by Men at Works Down Under in 1983, which reached number one on several occasions.

The song also reached number one on the U.S. charts of the year 1994. The song was number 51 on the Billboard Hot 100 All- Time Top Songs, the top ranked songs from 1958 to 2008, listed.

Music Video

The director for music video led Mathias Julin. It shows the group in front of large image overlays singing, a flag is swung. The "Sign", so the character is represented as a digitized, golden and rotating Anch having therein a djed pillar.

In addition, in each scene a story of a man and a woman is told in these sit on two chairs side by side, until the man goes. He comes back with a rose which he gives the woman and adopt them as well. The two talk briefly on the hands. However, a light shines in the woman's face, she pulled away. The rose falls on the remaining chair.

Re-use

The song was covered by The Mountain Goats. It was also used in an episode of American Dad!, The last of the fifth season.
