The Sword and the Sorcerer is an American fantasy film from the year 1982. The film is the directorial debut of Albert Pyun.

Content

The young Talon is the son of King Richard and had to attend his assassination on behalf of Cromwell. Cromwell now seizes power over the kingdom itself. Talon manages to escape and grow into a manhood. One day he can save Alana from rape. She asks him to free her brother Mikah from the hands of Cromwell. In the course of this rescue operation Talon and Alana get independently into the hands of Cromwell. With the help of the once betrayed by Cromwell warlock Xusia Cromwell can be defeated.

Awards

Actor Richard Lynch in 1983 was awarded a Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor. In five other categories, the film received nominations.

Criticism

The lexicon of the International film wrote that the film was characterized by " uninspired action- drama " and that he had to offer no " even remotely plausible story ."

Continuation

In 2010, Pyun staged with The Sword and the Sorcerer 2 a late sequel to the film. Lee Horsley is seen again in de role of the Talon. Other roles were filled by Kevin Sorbo, Ralf Moeller and Michael Paré.
