The Tennessee Three

The Tennessee Three were more than 40 years, the band Background of the Country musician Johnny Cash and created with him the famous " Johnny Cash Sound".

Tennessee Two

Cash first played along with the " Tennessee Two", guitarist Luther Perkins and bassist Marshall Grant at various clubs in Memphis (Tennessee ) until 1955 along with it got a record contract with Sam Phillips, the owner and producer of Sun Records. Perkins and Grant were until then as well as cash are not professional musicians, but worked full time as a car salesman or mechanic.

Since Cash's band at that time did not have a drummer, Perkins was a piece of paper jam behind the strings of the rhythm guitar; this percussive buzz became a typical feature of the famous "boom -chick -a- boom". The name is an onomatopoeic description for the fast, pounding sound similar to a moving train.

Tennessee Three

1960 met the drummer WS Holland to the band from which so that the " Tennessee Three" were.

Guitarist Luther Perkins worked with Cash and the Tennessee Three, until he came in 1968 at the age of 40 years with the fire of his house died; he was replaced by Bob Wootton. In 1971 the band an instrumental album on which Luther Perkins was dedicated to: The Tennessee Three: The Sound Behind Johnny Cash.

The bassist Marshall Grant left the band in 1980. Since then, changing occupations, with Wootton and Holland as a permanent musicians. In 1997, Cash toured his one; he died in 2003.

The Tennessee Three continue to occur, the vocal part has taken over Wootton. Is supported by the band Woottons wife Vicky and his daughter Scarlett. In 2006, the band released the tribute album The Sound Must Go On.

2012 appeared another album entitled " All Over Again" without the retiring WS Holland. The band is now reinforced by Woottons youngest daughter Montana.
