Band History

Matthew Sweet, Pete Droge and Shawn Mullins, three multi-instrumentalist, record producer and songwriter, initially known only fleeting, but always worked together again with the same people. In the spring of 2002, the idea for a joint project that are initially only on a small scale is created, but then the interest of the label Aware Records, who take the as yet unnamed project under contract. There he produced his first demo recordings that will later be reworked by producer Brendan O'Brien, keyboardist Roy Bittan and drummer Jim Keltner. The name originates quite by accident, as the Rolling Stone confuses the song Thorns with the band name in an interview.

The self-titled debut album was released on 7 July 2003 and reached number 62 on the Billboard charts. In Germany The Thorns toured in the summer of the same year as the opening act of the Dixie Chicks. In the U.S., the group toured as an acoustic project and the opening act of the Jayhawks and later with John Mayer. The project has since played sporadically concerts.

Music style

Your so far only album The Thorns is located in Rock / Folk Rock and settled stylistically between the Eagles, America and Crosby, Stills & Nash. Was criticized by Giuliano Benassi of the Laut.de something to smooth production and the lack of originality.
