The Three Weeks

The three weeks ( Heb. שלושת השבועות ), the period between the 17th of Tammuz and the 9th of Av on the Jewish calendar. They are days of mourning over the destruction of the Jerusalem temple. In Hebrew, these days can be " days in the midst of affliction " ( יִמיִ בין המצריִם, bein ha - metzarim ), named after Jeremiah 1:3: "All her persecutors overtook the middle of the Tribulation."

During this period, the halacha prescribes

  • Not to cut the hair,
  • Not to hold weddings,
  • Not to wear new clothes or to buy
  • From 1 - 9th Still enjoy Av neither meat wine, with the exception of Shabbat and religious holidays ( Se'udat Mitzvah )
  • No new apartment to purchase.

The Jewish according to tradition will change in the days of the Messiah, the days of mourning three weeks in days exuberant joy.
