The Village Sessions is an EP that published the American guitarist and singer John Mayer on 12 December 2006 at Aware Records ( Columbia). Included are acoustic versions of pieces that previously on the albums Continuum and Try! have appeared.

Formation

John Mayer took the EP towards the end of 2006 along with Robbie McIntosh, who is also his tour band in Los Angeles. As a guest singers and musicians is to " Waiting on the World to Change " the guitarist Ben Harper heard, who has worked on Continuum in this item. Location was the studio The Village Recorder, by which the EP came to her name. Previously, Mayer had there already recorded parts of his album Continuum.

Publications

The Village Sessions appeared on CD and was sold in limited quantities and at first only through independent record stores.

In May 2007 The Village Sessions released as a download on iTunes. As a bonus, a short film called In Repair was here: One Song, One Day at documenting the origins of the song " In Repair" for the album Continuum.

Reception and Awards

The Village Sessions was recorded in total well by the critics. Were unanimous in praising all reviewers Mayer's guitar playing, that his qualities as a musician put to the test. Repeats was also pointed out how simple the arrangements were. This gave rise to a special intimacy that leads back to the Mayer his music back to its beginnings.

Split opinions on Ben Harper's interpretation of " Waiting On The World To Change" were. There was criticism that the title does not fit the rest of the EP and Harper does not enrich the piece. Other critics were, however, it were the best tracks on the album.

For that is included on The Village Sessions acoustic version of " Belief" John Mayer was nominated performance for the Grammy Awards 2008 in the Best Male Pop Vocal category.

The EP contains 6 pieces, which - with the exception of " Good Love Is On The Way", which to Try! appeared - have previously been published on Continuum.
