The Wiggles

The Wiggles are an Australian musical group, is known internationally for children's music and entertainment. The Wiggles have also produced movies and TV shows in addition to successful music and Höralben and are represented with the themes and characters created by them in amusement parks in Australia and the United States.

History

In the early 1990s started the preschool pedagogy students Anthony Field, Murray Cook, Greg Page and Phillip Wilcher an educational project with children's songs. Along with Jeff Fatt, who had already been successful with Field end of the 80 in the band The Cockroaches, they recorded an album entitled The Wiggles with self-penned children's songs, which was released by ABC Music in 1991 and immediately was very successful. In particular, the song Here Comes a song sold over 35,000 copies and was certified gold.

Initially, the band members were still working in their professions educators while they produced more albums and performances gave (but without Wilcher, who sought a separate career as a classical composer ). They created recurring characters like Captain Feathersword, Dorothy the Dinosaur, Henry the Octopus and Wags the Dog and built between their songs for children stories and scenes with them in their recordings and performances. Finally, it was expanded to a full-time job for the quartet in the mid- 90s the whole thing into a film and a television series for Australian television.

As of 1998, the Wiggles were the first time also in the United States, where they were very popular quickly. In 2003, she gave 12 sold-out concerts at Madison Square Garden. In the same year, they expanded their activities to Asia and published a Taiwanese version of the Wiggles. Following the success they were also active in Latin America. Meanwhile, the Wiggles are broadcast in over 100 countries. Also on stage and screen, the Wiggles project has grown in the meantime. In the theme parks on the Gold Coast, they are represented with the Wiggles World and Wiggle Bay and Sydney were two Play Centre set up with entertainment for young children. Also in three Six Flags theme parks in the United States Wiggles World is represented.

After the quartet was 15 years together successfully, had to withdraw 2006 Greg Page for health reasons. Sam Moran, who had already been involved since 1998 in the context of the four Wiggles and replaced on the stage in front of the exit Page, became the new permanent member.

By 2010, the Wiggles have sold 23 million DVDs and 7 million CDs worldwide. They are among the most successful Australian entertainers with annual revenue in 2009 amounted to 45 million AUD. From 2004 to 2008 she led the Australian Entertainment Rich List.
