Theatre founding

"The will now where everywhere complain of cultural degradation to establish a municipal theater in Ansbach " have "a historical dimension ," commented the Franconian country newspaper on 7 October 2006 and referred to the decision of the city ( under the then Lord Mayor Ralf Felber ) and the cooperative culture at the castle with its Chairman and CEO Carl -Dieter Spranger and the then chairman Klaus Dieter broadsword as a " politico-cultural sensation " (1 Nov. 2006). The decision for the theater foundation rested on the conviction of the central importance of the cultural order of the city, on considerations of " culture as a soft location factor " and on the assessment of cultural experts from all over Germany, that the possibilities of the 2001-2003 rehabilitated and expanded Ansbacher House of Culture " Borkholderhaus " so far have not been fully exploited and a theater mode with guest performances, co- and self-production is possible.

In April 2007, the first Artistic Director Jürgen Eick was appointed. The theater foundation he perceived as " a small miracle ", as in an interview with the magazine, the German stage (11/ 2007) explained. The Süddeutsche Zeitung writes about the unusual " theatrical pioneer spirit" of the city: " Ansbach invested against the general trend in culture - and affords since this season Stadttheater " ( October 10, 2008 ).

In May 2010, the Forum drew Culture of the European Metropolitan Region of Nuremberg Jürgen Eick for his work as artistic director at the theater Ansbach as first " Artist of the Month " from.

Prehistory

The cooperative support of the theater Ansbach has a long cultural tradition. It goes back to the 1909 founded " Ansbacher Concert Association ", which was in 1919 extended to other clubs and a cinema, and registered as a cooperative. In 1930, the cooperative has its own " house of public education " in which a library was housed. The now known as " Borkholder House" building was modernized in 2001-2003 by the Munich architect Hein Goldstein and expanded.

The now under the name "Theater Ansbach - Culture at the Castle eG " firmierende cooperative is next to the new theater operating carrier of a classical concert series with international guests and the lock light games Ansbach.
