Theodora of Trebizond

Theodora Comnena ( * before 1253; † after 1285) was from 1284 to 1285 and Großkomnenin Empress of Trebizond.

Theodora was a daughter of Trebizond Emperor Manuel I and his second wife, a Georgian princess named Rusudan.

In 1284 briefly succeeded Theodora her half-brother John II with the support of David VI. Narin, the Georgian King of Imereti, to expel from Trebizond throne and set itself up as the Empress. Her reign lasted only briefly, as they beat John II as early as 1285 and so could again gain the imperial dignity. From the brief reign of Theodora some are preserved under their auspices, coins.
