Théodore Chassériau

Chassériau Théodore ( born September 20, 1819 in Saint- Domingue, † October 8, 1856 in Paris) was a French painter of the Romantic Classicism.

He studied in the studio of Jean -Auguste -Dominique Ingres, but later influenced him above all Paul Delaroche and Eugène Delacroix. In his time Théodore Chassériau was known for his portraits and historical scenes, including his work tepidarium à Pompeii from 1853, which is on display in the Louvre.
