Theodorus Dekker

Theodorus (Dirk ) Jozef Dekker (* March 1, 1927 ) is a Dutch mathematician.

Dekker received his master's degree in mathematics in 1954 and 1958 his doctorate from the University of Amsterdam. His dissertation was entitled Paradoxical Decompositions of sets and Spaces. His doctoral supervisor was John de Groot.

He then went on Mathematisch Centrum in Amsterdam, where he was involved among other things in programming in Algol 60. In 1971 he became Professor of Numerical Analysis at the University of Amsterdam, where he remained until his retirement in 1992. There he became one of the founders of computer science 1981 Department.

His research interests include numerical analysis, numerical software and number theory.

Named after Dekker Dekker algorithm that allows two processes to share a single resource conflict.
