Theresienmesse

The Theresa Mass in B flat major by Joseph Haydn ( Hob.XXII: 12), which is one of his last six major trade fairs, was composed in 1799 and received its popular nickname, because the work of the wife of Francis II / I, Marie Therese should be dedicated. Composed Haydn has the show for his employer Prince Nikolaus II Esterházy, for which he wrote all of his late masses. The Theresienmesse has a high degree of tonal beauty and aesthetic- artistic quality.

The world premiere of the Theresienwiese fair was held in the mountain church in Eisenstadt on September 8, 1799. The show is written for chorus, solo quartet, organ, two clarinets, two trumpets, bassoon, strings and timpani. A performance of the fair lasts for about 45 min.

The show is created in six parts:

  • Kyrie: Adagio - Allegro - Adagio
  • Gloria: Allegro - Moderato - Piu animato - Vivace
  • Credo: Allegro - Adagio - Allegro
  • Sanctus: Andante - Allegro
  • Benedictus: Moderato
  • Agnus Dei: Adagio - Allegro
