Missa brevis Sancti Joannis de Deo

The Missa brevis Sancti Joannis de Deo in B flat major ( XXII: 7) is the 7th measuring composition by Joseph Haydn. It is commonly referred to in the vernacular as Small Orgelsolomesse. Your nickname comes from the fact that the very short overall held Missa brevis has an extensive organ and soprano solo in the Benedictus.

The show was composed in 1775 for the Order of the Brothers of Mercy in Eisenstadt and is named after its founder, St.. John of God. The Mercy Church of St. Anthony of Padua has a small choir, so the singers and musicians number was low. The now named with Haydn Organ from 1732 by Johann Franz Frey from Wiener Neustadt had only one positive organ without pedal, so the organ part requires no pedal use.

The show is written for soprano solo, four part choir and the Vienna church trio. This occupation, in addition to the organ comprises only two violins and bass ( cello or double bass). The fair is kept very simple and short. In the Gloria and the Credo of the text is spread across several voices so that different lines sound simultaneously. Thus, although the entire liturgical prescribed text is recited, but is not understood by the listener. A performance of the fair lasts for about 15 minutes. To promote a better understanding, wrote a famous long version of the Gloria Haydn's brother Michael.

Because of the simplicity of musical means with simultaneous high melodic expressiveness of the Little Organ Solo Mass is one of the most frequently performed sacred works of Haydn.
