Thessalon

Thessalon [ tɛsələn ] is a small town in the Canadian province of Ontario. The last census of 2001 ( "Canada 2001 Census " ) According 1,386 residents live in the city.

Location

Thessalon is located 80 kilometers east of Sault Ste. Marie in the south of Algoma District. The city is located on the north coast of Lake Huron directly behind a small peninsula, which expires in two bays on the east and west of the city.

The Thessalon River flows centrally through the city and flows east of the peninsula in Lake Huron. The city itself is located at the intersection of Highways 17 and 129 and is called the " Gateway to the Mississagi Valley " (engl.: "Gateway to Mississagital " ) refers to the valley of a river that runs east of the city.

History

The history of the church began in the late 19th century with the incorporation of the city in 1892. The area was about a hundred years earlier developed as a potential building location for a British fort. Eventually, however, the southern tip of the nearby island of St. Joseph Iceland was selected. The value of the environment of Thessalon has been recognized. After surveying the area by the Thompson brothers from Quebec City in 1869, it was decided that it would be ideal for forestry. A year later, here are the first trees were felled and the city began to grow. Nathaniel Dyment from Barrie is often named as the founder of the city. He came to this place in 1872, the machinery to build a sawmill. The result of his efforts to have been the first steam-powered sawmill the northern coast of the lake.

During the 20th century, the fishing industry, agriculture, manufacturing industries, mining and tourism developed. Tourism today is one of the main sources of income of the city. The excellent location on Lake Huron attracts anglers, boaters, campers and nature lovers. The city also has a public beach in the western bay and the Livingstone Creek golf course.

In recent years, the city expanded on the previously untouched peninsula. A road leading over them up to a lighthouse at the end picturesque.
