Thomas, Count of Flanders

Thomas II of Piedmont ( * 1200, † February 7, 1259 ) was lord of Piedmont, as well as temporarily Count of Flanders and Hainault, and Count of Savoy.

He was a younger son of Thomas I, Count of Savoy.

In his first marriage he married on April 2, 1237 Joanna of Flanders, which he on whose death in 1244 of their right was Count of Flanders and Hainaut up.

After Joan's death, he married his second wife Béatrice de Fieschi, a niece of Pope Innocent IV.

1253 to 1259 he was, as regent for his underage nephew Boniface, Count of Savoy.

His children were:

  • Thomas III. († 1282), Lord of Piedmont;
  • Amadeus V. († 1323), Count of Savoy;
  • Ludwig ( † 1302), Baron of Le Vaud ( canton of Vaud ).
