Thomas E. Scanlon

Thomas Edward Scanlon ( born September 18, 1896 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, † August 9, 1955 ) was an American politician. Between 1941 and 1945 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Thomas Scanlon attended the public schools of his home, the Forbes School and Duquesne University, also in Pittsburgh. Between 1914 and 1936 he worked in the press shop for newspapers in Pittsburgh. Between September 1918 and May 1919, he served during the final stages of World War II in the U.S. Army. From 1920 to 1940 he was a delegate at the union Pittsburgh Central Labor Union. Between 1936 and 1941 he was a member of a control committee in Allegheny County.

Politically Scanlon was a member of the Democratic Party. In the congressional elections of 1940 he was in the 30th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Republican Robert J. Corbett on January 3, 1941. After a re-election in the 16th district of his state, he was able to complete in Congress until January 3, 1945 two legislative sessions. These were shaped by the events of World War II.

In 1944, Scanlon was not re-elected. He died on August 9, 1955 in his hometown of Pittsburgh.
