Thomas Hengen

Thomas Hengen ( born September 22, 1974 in Landau ) is a former German football player, coach and now works as a scout for Hamburger SV.

The defender was active in amateur for the SV Ruelzheim and Phoenix Bell home before 1989 transferred to 1 FC Kaiserslautern and with the A- youth of the FCK won the 1992 German Championship. As a youth international, he played a total of 13 matches in the U16 and U18, and later another 13 games for the U21 national team.

In the season 1992/93 he played his first Bundesliga game for the FCK, but could win a regular place until 1996, as the libero position was permanently assigned with Miroslav Kadlec and Andreas Brehme. In his last game for the first FC Kaiserslautern, he won in May 1996 in Berlin the German Cup.

He then accepted the offer of Karlsruher SC, who was in search of a new defense chief after the departure of Jens Nowotny. He added in his first season in 1996/97 at KSC seamlessly into the team and completed 30 of 34 games. However, in the following season, the KSC dismounted from the Bundesliga, after Hengen moved to Borussia Dortmund. BVB, he held a regular place and was awarded the season 1999/2000 at Beşiktaş Istanbul. In December 1999 there was a second loan, this time to VfL Wolfsburg. It was agreed a purchase option, which was drawn from VfL Wolfsburg at the end of the season. In Wolfsburg Hengen belonged to the permanent staff.

For the season 2001 /02 he moved back to the first FC Kaiserslautern. He was named team captain and proved in his first season as a reinforcement in defense. In the season 2002 /03 Hengen had to undergo three knee surgeries and so came to only 10 missions. In January 2004 it was announced that the end of the season expiring contract would not be renewed with Hengen. During the month Hengen was finally suspended together with Markus beginning and Steffen Freund. In March 2004, Hengen appealed against the suspension. Ultimately, club and player agreed out of court. By Hengen was worth placed on the finding that the suspension for sporting reasons and not because of labor law breach of duty occurred. However, the exact reasons are unknown to this day - the services Hengens in his last league games had not been below the level of the team anyway at that time in crisis.

In total he played 224 Bundesliga games and scored seven goals.

In 2004 he moved to the 2nd Bundesliga Alemannia Aachen, came there, but because of a chronic hip osteoarthritis no longer used. After the rehabilitation was unsuccessful, he gave in early 2006 on his career. He was from 2006 to 2007 director of the youth training center of TSV Alemannia Aachen and took over in the 2007/ 08 season, the training its second team.

Since 2009 he worked as a scout for Everton; He has been working in the same capacity at Hamburger SV in 2012.
