Thomas I Komnenos Doukas

Thomas Komnenos Dukas Angelos, named Thomas of Epirus, (c. 1288, † 1318 ) was from 1296 to 1318 Despot of Epirus.

He was the eldest son of Despot Nicephorus I of Epirus and his 2nd wife Anna Kantakuzena - Palaiologina, and great-nephew of the Emperor Michael VIII of Byzantium. After his father's death in 1296, Thomas became the Despot of Epirus and was due to his minority initially under the regency of his mother. He married in 1313 Anna Palaiologina, the emperor Michael IX daughter .. However, to the succession, there were violent clashes and nephew Nikola Orsini, Count Palatine of Cephalonia. In 1318, Thomas was eventually murdered by Nikola, who then became the new despot, and married the widow of Thomas.
