Thomas Kahlenberg ( born March 20, 1983 in Hvidovre ) is a Danish football player.

Career

Association

Thomas Kahlenberg played in the youth for the Danish football club Hvidovre IF unterklassigen before he moved to Brøndby IF at the age of 15 years. Here the midfielder played in the different youth teams and was on 12 May 2002 against FC Copenhagen his debut in the Super League after his former youth coach Tom Køhlert had just taken the lead on the first team. With this application on the last matchday of the 2001/02 season Kahlenberg was with the team that was able to celebrate the Danish Championship.

Kahlenberg played three more seasons for Brøndby and won in his last season 2004/ 05 the Danish championship for the second time. Similarly, the club won the Danish Cup this season and Kahlenberg was top scorer with 13 of his team. In summer 2005, he moved abroad and went to the French Ligue 1 club AJ Auxerre, where he signed a four year contract. There Kahlenberg could prevail, and together with Kanga Akale, Benoît Cheyrou and Philippe Violeau the middle of the French. As the only outfield player, he completed while all 38 league games. In the following four years he was a regular performer in AJ. His best finish with Auxerre 2005/06 was the sixth place.

For the 2009/10 season Thomas Kahlenberg transferred for a transfer of about four million euros to former German champions VfL Wolfsburg and signed a four-year contract. He started his first season but with hip problems, so it was used only on 11 Gameday for the first time. Even then he was only a substitute and had a total of only twelve missions in which he managed no goals. The following year, he stood in the first round seven times in the starting lineup and scored on 2 October 2010 on 7 Round 1-1 draw with Borussia Mönchengladbach his first Bundesliga goal. After the club was but slipped into the basement table and it came to coach changes, the new trainers put no more on him in a relegation battle. And so were not more than fourteen season games in his second year.

During the winter break of the season 2011/12 VfL Wolfsburg Kahlenberg gave to the French first division club FC Evian Thonon Gaillard until end of season; there also played his compatriots and team-mate Daniel Wass, Stephan Andersen and Christian Poulsen. For the 2012/13 season Kahlenberg returned to Wolfsburg, but could not prevail under Felix Magath, still under Lorenz -Günther Köstner and Dieter Hecking. After the season Kahlenberg left the club after his contract had expired.

On August 21, 2013 Kahlenberg returned to Brøndby IF. He signed a four-year contract until 30 June 2017.

National

Kahlenberg has already played in the U -17 and U-19 national teams of Denmark, before he made his U-21 international debut on 11 October 2002 in the European Championship qualifier against Luxembourg in Farum. After successful qualification he took with the Danish U-21 team at the U -21 Football Championship, where he scored three goals in the three group matches, but the resignation of his team could not prevent. Overall, he played 26 games in which he scored 10 goals.

Just six months after his U-21 debut Kahlenberg played for the first time for the national team when he came off the bench on 30 April 2003 in a friendly against Ukraine in the 76th minute for Thomas Gravesen. Kahlenberg was as much as the youngest member of the team of Denmark to the European Football Championship in 2004, but where he did not play.
