Thomas Köhler (footballer)

Thomas Köhler ( born June 17, 1967) is a former German football goalkeeper and current coach. Since 2010 he is at Dynamo Dresden under contract.

Playing career

About the junior level of the FC Rot -Weiss Erfurt and the league team of BSG Robotron Sömmerda came Thomas Köhler during the winter break 1988/89 for SG Dynamo Dresden. His debut in the top division of the German Democratic Republic was the 1.94 meter tall goalkeeper on 27 May at the 1989 1:1 Dynamos in the BSG bismuth floodplain. In the season 1988/89 the East German Oberliga Köhler denied just this one and in the 1989/90 season seven inserts for Dynamo Dresden, which he contributed in two seasons for each gained mastery of the Saxons, who also in 1989/90 the FDGB Cup won. His goalkeeping rival Ronny Teuber could not make its regular place permanently dispute Köhler but so that it only came in reaching the Championships National Champion Cup two appearances, which he played in 1990/91 in the quarterfinals to eventual cup winners Belgrade. With the inclusion of the East German in the now all-German league operating in the mid- 1991 Kohler played for the third-tier Oberliga FSV Soemtron Sömmerda, for which he Südstaffel in the Amateur Oberliga Nordost four games completed in the 1991/92 season. Already in the fall of 1991 he joined the squad of Bundesliga Hansa Rostock. However, the financially troubled club succeeded instead of returning to the highest German leagues only the establishment in the middle of the Regional.

Koehler then moved up to season 1999 /00 for second division side Energie Cottbus, with him in his first season promotion to the Bundesliga. Tomislav Piplica got but in the promotion season the delay before Köhler and guarded in the Premiership Player 2000/ 01 the Cottbus gate so that Köhler for energy only came to an insert in the DFB Cup, before he ended his active career in 2001.

Coaching career

On February 6, 2005 Koehler took over as coach of the playing in the Oberliga Nordost second representation of Energie Cottbus and finished with this end of the season 2004/ 05 the seventh place of the North Season. For the following season 2005/ 06 Cottbus II was regrouped in the South squadron and reached this season ranked ninth in 2006/ 07 but increased with Köhler Cottbus II in the Regionalliga. For next season 2007/ 08 Köhler worked as goalkeeper coach on the staff of the first Cottbus team.

From April 2008 to June 2009 Köhler was coach of VfB Oberliga Pössneck. In addition, he worked at this time as a goalkeeper coach at third division VFC Plauen. From July 2009, Köhler goalkeeping coach was Rot-Weiß Erfurt at third division FC.

On 11 June 2010 he signed a two-year contract with Dynamo Dresden. He takes over where the goalkeeper training all performance teams as well as the head coach items in the 2nd team. From the 2013/2014 season takes over Jan Seifert training the 2nd team, Köhler focuses entirely on the goalie training.
