Thomas Osborne, 4th Duke of Leeds

Thomas Osborne, 4th Duke of Leeds KG, PC ( * November 6, 1713, † March 23, 1789 ) was a British aristocrat (peer ) and during the reign of George II and George III. a high state official.

Thomas Osborne was the first son of Peregrine Hyde Osborne, 3rd Duke of Leeds ( 1691-1731 ) and Elizabeth Harley ( 1686-1713 ), daughter of Robert Harley, 1st Earl of Oxford and Mortimer. First, he led the courtesy title Earl of Danby, later he was after his father's death in 1731 the Duke of Leeds. 1740 married Mary Godolphin Osborne ( 1705-1764 ), daughter of Francis Godolphin, 2nd Earl of Godolphin. They had two sons, Thomas Osborne (1747-1761) and Francis Godolphin Osborne, who later inherited the title of the Father.

1749 Osborne was admitted as a Knight of the Garter (KG) in the Order of the Garter and Privy Counsellor in 1757 as (PC ) Member of the Privy Council. 1756 Osborne rose to the Cofferer of the Household and supervised as Officer of the State Officers of the Household. This state office he held until 1761. From 1761 to 1776 he was a judge acting as a travel judge ( Justice in Eyre north of Trent ). Died in 1766 his father Francis Godolphin. As this had no male offspring more, Thomas Osborne inherited the family seat Godolphin House in the County of Cornwall. Osborne died in 1789 at the age of 75 years.
