Thomas Steiner
Thomas Steiner ( born October 25, 1956 in Wels ) is an Austrian painter and video artist.
Life
Steiner lives in Linz. His research interests are experimental frame of film, video and painting. He studied art education at the School of Design Linz. After graduating in 1986, he attended the University of Applied Arts Vienna in the Masterclass Maria Lassnig. In 1979 he was a founding member of the City of Linz workshop.
Since 1984, Steiner takes part in international film festivals and since 1990 he shows his paintings in solo exhibitions and group exhibitions at home and abroad.
Steiner is a member of the Upper Austrian Art Association, the Vienna Künstlerhaus (since 2001 ) and the ASIFA Austria.
Work
Thomas Steiner's works include drawing, painting, film and video, are characterized by the exploration, the interrelationships between the various media. It develop artistic processes at the interface of static and moving images.
His work develops in series, which are each dedicated to a visual theme. The close interweaving of cinematic and painterly strategies Thomas Steiner makes seeing the experiment, divided and alienated the visual perception of the world.
Works by him are in the possession of the cities of Linz and Wels, the Strabag Art Forum of Lentos in the art collection of the province of Upper Austria and the BKA But Tina as well as in private collections.
He participated in symposia and completed work stays in Bangalore, Moscow / ALFERJEWO, Eger, Paliano, Mexico and participated in film festivals at home and abroad.

Awards
Thomas Steiner has received several prizes and awards, including 1996 the Upper Austrian State Cultural Award for experimental film and the first prize in the art competition of construction holding Klagenfurt. He was nominated for the Media Art Award of the SWR 2005.
