Thomas Tien Ken-sin

Thomas Cardinal Tien Ken -sin, SVD, Thomas Tienchensin ( Chinese:田 耕莘) ( born October 24, 1890 in Chantsui, China; † July 24, 1967 in Taipei, Taiwan) was Archbishop of Beijing and former chairman of the Catholic Fu -Jen - University.

Life

Thomas Tien Ken -sin studied Catholic theology at the seminary of Yenchowfu and received on 9 June 1918, the sacrament of Holy Orders. He then worked as a parish pastor. In 1929 he joined the community of the Divine Word Missionaries.

1939 Pope Pius XII appointed him. Apostolic Prefect of Yangku. In 1939, Thomas Tien Ken -sin Titular Bishop of Ruspae and Vicar Apostolic of Yangku. He received his episcopal consecration by Pope Pius XII. on July 11, 1939 in Rome.

On February 18, 1946 it took Pius XII. as cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Maria in Via in the College of Cardinals and appointed him shortly afterwards, on 11 April 1946 as Archbishop of Peking. He was the first cardinal from East Asia. 1951 Thomas Tien Ken -sin was expelled from the Communist rulers of the People's Republic of China. He took both 1958 and 1963 part of the conclave. In the years 1962 to 1965 he was a participant in the Second Vatican Council. From 1959 to 1966 he stood as Apostolic Administrator of Archdiocese of Taipei.

He died on 24 July 1967 in Taipei and was buried in the local cathedral.
