Thorold

Thorold is a city in the south of the Canadian province of Ontario. It is located in the Regional Municipality of Niagara and is also the administrative headquarters. The city has a population of 18,224 (as of 2006). Through the city flows the Welland Canal, which attracts through the ship lock system located near the city every year many tourists. In addition, the Battle of Beaver Dams took place in June 1813 near the present town.

The city is named after the 9th Baronet British nobleman and politician John Thorold.
