Thorpe Cup

The Thorpe Cup is an international contest of ten fighters and seven fighters from Germany and the United States. He first took place in 1993 and was held in the years 2009, 2010 and 2012 in the Hessian town of Marburg. The competition is according to Jim Thorpe, Olympic champion from 1912, named.

History

Since 1993, the first Visa Cup meeting called competition between the two strongest nations decathlon is performed as a top-class international competition. It was founded by the former German national coach Claus Marek and the U.S. head coach Harry Mara. The first edition took place in 1993 in Aachen. Only once, in 2004, the contest turned out. Since 2006, the seven fighters are integrated into the cup. In 2007, the competition received its present name.

The Cup was held alternately in Germany and the United States by 2009. 2008, the Cup was held in Manhattan in the U.S. state of Kansas. 2009 and 2010 were also the athletes at the Georg - Gassmann -Stadion in Marburg against each other. Thorpe Cup 2009
