Thrasimund I of Spoleto

Transamund I ( also Transemund, Thrasimund, Thrasamund; † 703) was up 663 Comes ( Count ) of Capua and 663-703 Dux of the Lombard Duchy of Spoleto.

Life

Transamund had a brother named Wachilap; her parents are unknown. He was married to a daughter of the King Grimoald, with whom he had the son Faroald II.

To 661/662 Transamund was already comes from Capua, as his dux Grimoald of Benevento was planning to tear the kingdom itself. Godepert, who reigned jointly with his brother Perctarit as king of the Lombards, was looking for 661/662 support dux Grimoalds of Benevento against Perctarit. Grimoald handed his duchy to his son Romuald I. 662 and marched with a small band of warriors to the royal seat to Pavia. On the way Grimoald allies gathered around and sent Transamund to Spoleto and Tuscia to find more allies. In Emilia is united both departments. Grimoald stabbed Godepert 662 in his palace. Perctarit fled into exile. A public meeting confirmed Grimoald as king.

662 the Byzantine emperor Constans II landed with his army at Taranto and conquered many cities in Benevento. Constans 663 finished the campaign, and retired to Sicily. Transamund is not mentioned in connection with this campaign, but he seems to have excelled here. After the fighting married Grimoald 663 his daughter with Transamund and named him after the death Attos for dux of Spoleto. Transamund there was an equal footing with his brother Wachilapus.

The importance of Spoleto was partly in the geographical connection between the northern Italian monarchy and the Duchy of Benevento, on the other hand it still separated the Roman possessions to Ravenna on the Adriatic and of those around Rome and Naples.

After Transamunds death in 703 by his son Faroald II followed by a dux.
