Three Jewel Temples of Korea
Sambosachal are the " Temple of the Three Jewels ", which are considered as the most important Buddhist temples in Korea. Each of these three following temple is one of the " Three Jewels " of Buddhism:
- Tongdosa ( Kor. 통도사, Hanja通 度 寺), located in the province of Gyeongsangnam -do, represents Buddha ( Kor. 불, Hanja佛).
- Songgwangsa ( Kor. 송광사, Hanja松 广 寺), located in the province of Jeollanam -do, represents the Sangha or the community of Buddhist monks ( Kor. 승, Hanja僧).
- Haeinsa ( Kor. 해인사, Hanja海印 寺), located in the South Gyeongsang Province near the town of Daegu, represents Dharma or Buddhist teachings ( Kor. 불법, Hanja佛法). In this temple the Tripitaka Koreana is kept, which belongs to the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
