Three Saints Bay

Three Saints Bay

The Three Saints Bay is a small bay in the southeast of Kodiak Island in Alaska (USA).

It is located 97 km southwest of the city in Kodiak Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge.

History

On September 22, 1784, traders and sailors Grigori Ivanovich Shelikof founded in this bay, the first Russian settlement in Alaska. The bay and the settlement was named after one of his ships.

1792, the settlement was abandoned and moved to the site of the present city of Kodiak, after it was destroyed by an earthquake and a tsunami.

Since June 2, 1978, the archaeological site is classified as a National Historic Landmark.
