Three Smiths Statue

The statue stands in the Three wrought Helsinki city center on the Kolmen sepän aukio ( German three- forge - square) at the Mannerheimintie at the branch Aleksanterinkatu (Swedish: Alexandersgatan, often simply: Aleksi ) opposite the Stockmann department store. It was built in 1932 by Felix Nylund.

The upper part of the bronze statue stands on a base of granite and depicts three naked men on an anvil. This round base bears the Latin text

" Monumentum - curavit - legatum - j. tallbergianum - per helsingfors ad mcmxxxii "

" This statue was erected with the help of a donation from J. Tallberg Pro Helsingfors in 1932 "

The Foundation Pro Helsingfors had received the statue of Julius Tallberg merchant whose store was located at the northern end of the square as a donation.

During the Continuation War in 1944, the statue was damaged by shrapnel, which can be seen today. Today the statue is a popular meeting place, the place is free of ice even in winter for long, because it exists below the Aleksanterinkatu a heating system that keeps clear the road even at temperatures down to -10 ° C of snow and ice. The heat comes from the district heating water flowing off the surrounding buildings. So you can sit at this statue outdoors, even in winter.

A plaster model of the statue is located in the Akedemiebibliothek. At Christmas time the statues are often adorned with Christmas hats.
