History

History & opening

Since 1855, the city of Annaberg should get a web connection, then began planning in 1858 that examined, among other routes also a course through the Wilischtal about Thum and honor Friedersdorf. Instead, however, the design was favored by the Zschopautal, which was then implemented in 1866 with the Chemnitz- Anna Berger web. Then, a rail connection for the Wilischtal long seemed out of reach, until the 1880s, the Saxon parliament dealt again with the problem of pressure from numerous paper and textile manufacturers, who promised to another economic boom of a railroad. 1883/1884, including the design of a narrow-gauge railway from Wilischthal by Thum or Ehrenfriedersdorf was decided.

After the completion of construction, which began in September 1885, the Wilischthalbahn was officially opened on 14 December 1886.

Operation

For built in 1904 combined with the narrow gauge railway Schönfeld- Wiesa - Geyer was born in Thum a new station. Even before the start of the new connection towards Geyer a preliminary connecting track from the previous stopping point for new Thumer station was used by the trains of the Wilischthalbahn from 18 April 1906. The route to Geyer was opened on 30 April 1906 with the start of regular traffic a day later - on May 1, 1906 - the short spur route of Upper Herold Ehrenfriedersdorf station was shut down because of the new route to Geyer, a new station for Ehrenfriedersdorf had been set up. During the construction of the branch line route to Ehrenfriedersdorf was planned as a siding for multiple users, as these but the cost of using were too high, that this project is smashed.

The Trolley traffic was introduced in 1912/13, to create the necessary clearance when several alterations were necessary.

The route was along with the connection Schönfeld- Wiesa - Meinersdorf significantly to the economic development of the region. Freight traffic increased steadily and reached the early sixties with about 300,000 tons in the whole " Thumer network " its peak. There were mainly coal and building materials transported, as well as cotton, paper, cellulose, yarn, socks, shoes, wood and much more. A large part of the cargo handling had Gelenau station with more than 20%. The number of passengers on the route per year was very different.

From the mid- sixties coal transports were moved by road, which led to a significant decline in freight transport. Same time, no need for people between Wilischthal and Gelenau was practically gone. The trains were running extremely slow due to the neglected superstructure.

Closure

The Wilischthalbahn was decommissioned on 28 May 1972, reduced to 1976 in steps from Thum to the siding of the paper mill Wilischthal. Only the connecting paper mill was operated until 1992 by Wilischthal yet with shunting. In December 1991, found the last time with an IV K, a luggage and a passenger coaches some special trips instead.

Route description

Operating points

The narrow gauge part of the station was opened in 1886. The existing station building of Zschopautalbahn was extended to include an extension. Were newly built in a einständiger engine shed, coal shed with a living room and an adjacent water station, with about 4 feet of water sweeping crane. Furthermore, a loading ramp for narrow track vehicles and a rolling pit Established in 1887, which was rebuilt in 1913 for the use of rolling vehicles. From 1906 the engine shed in winter only served for incidental car repairs.

Locomotive and coal shed were when the closure by Thum in 1972 already no longer exists.

On June 1, opened in 1888 as a " breakpoint Weissbach " without buildings. Starting from 1915 called " breakpoint Wilischau ", later a waiting room with adjoining room is built. From 1925 until the end of the Second World War, he was required maintenance. With the summer timetable 1966, the breakpoint was abandoned due to lack of demand as the operating agency.

At this breakpoint no buildings were initially present. From 1912/13, a waiting room with a space for freight agent as well as an annexe was built with free abortion. The sidings existed until 1946 / 47th

1886 with the opening of the railway line taken as a bus stop with shelter, goods shed and outhouse free in operation. The inventory included a siding for the " textile syndicate ".

Due to the increasing traffic, the station was raised to the station, where could now take place also train crossings. The shelter has now been replaced by a massive building. A special feature was the " top " corner of the house because of an adjacent street.

This breakpoint had a connection factory. 1956/57, this has been extended to the biggest port of the network and Thumer, operated by connecting customers with its own diesel locomotive of type Ns 4, which is now owned by the IG Preßnitztalbahn.

On December 15, 1886, the Unter Herold was opened. In 1910 it was dismantled and moved about 70 meters to the Thum.

The breakpoint was famous to possess the allegedly smallest reception building of the DR. As garaging served a two-axle car body of the genus 760/761 without sliding. It was not until the early 1990s, he was demolished.

At this breakpoint first, there were no buildings. From 1927/28, there was a waiting room with abortion.

The original " stop upper Herald " existed since the track opened. In buildings, a waiting room with freight agency, an annexe with free outhouse and a two constant engine shed were present. With the closure of the line to honor Friedersdorf in 1906 the engine shed was demolished. As of the summer timetable 1942, the station as a herald station ( Ore Mountains) was called.

1886-1906 Ehrenfriedersdorf was the terminus of the route and location of the railway administration. There were built: a station building with goods shed, a free abortion, a two constant engine shed and a rail weighbridge. After 1906 the building was leased and the tracks removed until 1909. Along with the track Geyer- Thum, a new station was built and put into operation in 1906.

In Thum was in 1886 at the height of the post office first, just one stop with bus shelters. In 1906 arose in connection with the construction of the track Geyer- Thum, a new station, which functioned as an operating center of the " Thumer network ".

From May 1906 until the closure in 1975 Thum was the largest train station in the network. On the site of the reception building, outbuildings with free outhouse, a carriage house, a goods shed, a loading gauge, track a weighbridge and a side loading dock were built with charging road. At the end of the platform in the direction of Geyer was located between the tracks a water crane.

In 1934, the demolition of the old roundhouse. At its ad a roundhouse followed with four double stalls and a two-way shed for car repairs. It was the largest locomotive shed of the Saxon narrow gauge railways. The building for the planned construction of a new nursing home was demolished at the site in October 2013.

Vehicle use

Locomotives

On the Wilischthalbahn the locomotives No. 25, No. 26 and No. 27 were of the genus IK used from 1886. The locomotive No. 62 A / B 2 and 3 produced by coupling the I K locomotives No. ( II K ) was before and during the First World War on the Wilischthalbahn in use.

Preference in Thumer network and between Selva and Jöhstadt the new III K should dominate in use after 1891. The car group was from 1892 but abruptly replaced by the generic K IV.

After amplification of the superstructure and the bridge in 1924/25 were 99 684 and 99 688, the first hot steam locomotives of the genus VI K by Thum. They were followed by other machines of the same model, so that the locomotive railway stations Thum and Geyer 1925 9 and 1928 even 13 copies (one in my village) -based. Between 1934 to 1937 came with the numbers 99 612, 99 614, 99 615, 99 616 and 99 618 also locomotives of Class VK after Thum.

In the summer of 1933 came with the 99 751 and 99 752 first 1'E1 ' unit locomotives of the DR Class 99.73-76 after Thum. With the numbers 99757-99762 six more locomotives of Class VII K ( old) came to Thumer network. On 20 June 1953, the Bw Thum received with the 99 778 the first new locomotive DR Class 99.77-79. A day later, the 99 777 Also the 99 776 and the 99779-99793 made their factory run on the routes of Thumer network. In addition to the copies 99 772, 99 786, 99 788, 99 790 and 99 794 were sailing all other new locomotives Thumer the network.

The fünffachgekuppelten series locomotives 99.77-79 came as a result of the many curves with a minimum radius of 50 meters in the valley of Wilisch a large wheel flange wear and tear. Bw Thum devised a new type of control and upgraded their machines from it. The control was so successful that then all locomotives of this series were fitted by RAW Görlitz with this.

The track today

From the former paper mill in Wilischthal to herald connection exists today on the railway line a walking and bike path. In Gelenau the characteristic has remained "sharp " station building. Also from 1886 originating station building in Ehrenfriedersdorf still exists. Today, it is re-used for a daycare.

From the Zschopaubrücke in Wilischthal still exists the structure. The tunnel-like overpass at the former paper mill is also obtained. From the former railway crossing the road to Gelenau in Wilischthal the tracks are still several hundred meters until today (as of early 2014 ). In the remaining piece of the bridge to the railway crossing these were first built back in early June 2009.
