Features
Butterfly
The wingspan of the butterfly is 27 to 31 millimeters. On the fore wings prevail dark gray-brown to reddish- brown coloration. The lower middle is obscured. It rises a characteristic silver-white characters, from about in the form of the letter gamma from the Greek alphabet. Gamma's character is stretched and often filled pink. The outer transverse line is light on both sides enclosed, the wavy line is very jagged. The hind wings are pale brownish, slightly darkened at the hem. The thorax is hairy and furry provided with some tufts of hair, the proboscis is well developed.
Similar Species
The Ashen Höckereule ( Trichoplusia ni) differs by longer wings as well as a much smaller and often interrupted gamma characters.
Distribution and habitat
Thysanoplusia daubei comes in the Mediterranean area, in the southern part of Asia and in North and East Africa before spreading. In Switzerland, sometimes moths were reported as immigrants. Main habitat of the species are bright shrubbery rich forest areas.
Way of life
