Tiberio di Tito

Tiberio Tito ( born December 24, 1573 Florence, † August 10, 1627 there ) was a Florentine painter of the Italian Baroque.

Life and work

Tiberio Tito was the son of originating from Borgo Sansepolcro and acting in Florence Santi di Tito. Tiberio was a pupil and later assistant to his father and completed after his death in 1603 bequeathed the painting. Among other things, he finished the portrait Mercuriales and his son Massimiliano showing the return of the relics from Jerusalem to Forli by the Holy Mercurialis, and signed it ( Church of San Mercuriale in the Abbazia di San Mercuriale, Forlì).

Tiberio Tito was considered a house painter of the Medici as Grand Dukes of Tuscany. He specialized in portraits of the Archduke's family. Among his children portraits portrait of the small Francesco Medici (1594-1614), the fourth child of Ferdinando I de 'Medici and Christine of Lorraine from 1597 is known. Very unusual is his portrait of Prince Leopold de 'Medici, showing the Cardinal Leopold later than 1 1/2 year-old child ( Palazzo Pitti, Florence).

The artist's works can be found distributed over the churches and museums of Tuscany.
