Tibet University

The Tibet University is the main university of the Tibet Autonomous Region in the People's Republic of China. Its main campus is located in Lhasa, a branch in Nyingchi.

History

With the preparations for a university in Tibet was started back in 1952, but the Tibet University was founded in 1985. Today, it is subject to both the central Ministry of Education in Beijing and the local government of Tibet.

Departments and study

The university has faculties of Agronomy, language and literature, science, technology, medicine, art, music, economics and management as well as tourism and foreign languages. There are separate departments for Tibetan language and literature, history and art. A total of 62 bachelor's degree programs and 12 graduate programs are offered. There are currently about 9000 students, including 30 foreigners.

Staff

At the Tibet University teaching 523 teachers, of whom 327 (62.5 %) Tibetans.

International cooperation

The university has, inter alia, a cooperation agreement with the University of Marburg.
