Tibor Serly
Tibor Serly [ tibor ʃɛrli ] ( born November 25, 1901 in Losonc, Austria - Hungary, now Lučenec, Slovakia, † October 8, 1978 in New York City ) was a Hungarian composer.
Serly studied at the Academy of Music in Budapest in Béla Bartók, Zoltán Kodály, Jenő Hubay and Hans Koessler. He was a violist with the Philadelphia Orchestra and the NBC Symphony Orchestra. From 1939 he was freelancing.
Serly composed an orchestra, a fan and a String Symphony, two orchestral suites, two viola concertos, a trombone concerto, a concerto for two pianos and orchestra, a Rhapsody for Viola and Orchestra, an orchestra elegy, six orchestral dances and songs. He also completed the third Piano Concerto and the Viola Concerto of Béla Bartók after his death.
