Monastery Staffarda (1135 ) Monastery Casanova

Monastery Tiglieto (Santa Maria alla Croce de Civitacula ), the 14 medieval abbey and the Order and the first outside of present-day France, is a Cistercian monastery in the region of Liguria, Italy.

Location

The monastery is located in the municipality of Tiglieto on the left bank of the river Orba in 382 m above sea level in the province of Genoa, near the border with the Piedmont region.

History

The 1120 on the initiative of Archbishop Peter of Tarentaise endowed monastery was a direct daughter monastery of primary abbey La Ferté. First abbot was probably Opizzone. The name Teletum likely the monastery after the donation of the land so designated by the Marquis Anselm adopted by Ponsone in 1131. From Tiglieto were Staffarda monastery and convent Casanova (Piedmont ), both in today's region of Piedmont, was founded. By Pope Eugene IV, the Coming was established in 1442 Tiglieto. 1648 the monastery was transformed and lifted in a family estate of the last Kommendatarabts Cardinal Raggio. In 1747 the town was occupied by the Austrians, but were soon driven by the Genoese. 2000, the Cistercians have returned to Tiglieto

Plant and buildings

The church is a primitive Romanesque brick basilica, originally with square Season choirs that were abandoned in the 14th century in favor of a new east facade. The nave was vaulted in the Baroque and changed to a west choir. A baroque Campanile has been added. The enclosure buildings lie to the south of the church; obtained are the early Gothic chapter house in the east with a square chapter house to 9 Jochen from the early 13th century and symmetric triforium to the Cross Garden ( the cloister came off ) and the dormitory with bricked-up windows on the upper floor, the sacristy, the Fraternei as well as in the south of Refektoriumsbau and to the west the altered for residential purposes Konversenhaus. The facility has been recently renovated by the year 2000.
