Tilemann Heshusius

Tilemann Hesshus (also: Heßhusen, Heshusius, Hess Husen, Heshusen; * November 3, 1527 in Wesel, † September 25, 1588 in Helmstedt ) was a Lutheran theologian.

Life

Hesshus comes from an influential family in Wesel. In Wittenberg he was Philipp Melanchthon students and stood close to him as such. During the time of the Augsburg Interim he lived in Oxford and Paris. In 1550, he earned the degree of Master of Arts, 1551 was included in the Senate of the faculty of philosophy and read about rhetoric and dogma. In 1553 he became superintendent in Goslar, acquired at the expense of the city on 19 May of the same year the doctoral degree in Wittenberg, but clashed with the city of Goslar in dispute and went in 1556 as a professor at the University of Rostock.

Family
