Tim Holden

Thomas Timothy " Tim " Holden ( born March 5, 1957 in St. Clair, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania) is an American politician. Between 1993 and 2013 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Tim Holden attended until 1975 the St. Clair Area High School and then the Fork Union Military Academy and the University of Richmond in Virginia. In 1980 he finished his studies at the Bloomsburg State University in Pennsylvania. He then worked as a probation officer in Schuylkill County. In addition, he held the office of Sergeant -at-Arms in the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. From 1985 to 1993 he was sheriff in Schuylkill County. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1992, Holden was in the sixth constituency of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Gus Yatron on January 3, 1993. After nine elections he held his seat in Congress until January 3, 2013, after he had lost party internally in the primaries of 2012 against Matt Cartwright. He was considered a more conservative Democrat and belonged to the Blue Dog Coalition. In 2002 he voted for the Iraq war.
