Timo Karppinen

Timo Karppinen ( born December 26, 1967) is a former Finnish orienteers. Karppinen won between 1993 and 1997 four silver and one bronze medal at the World Championships.

Karppinen is a member of Orienteering Club SK Pohjantähti from Oulu. At the World Championships in 1993 in the U.S. West Point, he won the silver medal behind Norwegian Petter Thoresen in the short- distance race over 4.8 kilometers. As a finisher of the Finnish season he also won the bronze medal still with Keijo Parkkinen, Mika Kuisma and Petri Forsman. In the next two World Cups in 1995 and 1997, the Finnish team with Karppinen took each a silver medal in the relay. In addition, Karppinen won again in 1997 silver in short distance race. When victory of his compatriot Janne Salmi in Grimstad, Norway Karppinen had a backlog of twelve seconds for the gold medal.
