Tincture (heraldry)#Counterchanging and countercolouring

The confusing colors, also reversed colors, are in heraldry a special kind of coloring.

Several variants have proved successful. A variant is based on the use of the division line of the two-tone color change in a coat of arms, shield, filling Herold image or a common figure. Another variation is that in this case change the colors of the affected fields at the division or line of division with the parts of the protruding part in the corresponding field of the unequal Herold image in a contrary way. That is, the label color of a field changes over the dividing line in the same part of the herald image of the other field, and vice versa. A completely different picture Herold as in the illustration above represents the third variant

The term can naturally always be used only in the plural, because at least two heraldic colors, including metals, are always affected. In older crest letters or documents the expression geschränkte color or folded color will be used. Would be correct to use the term changing color or alternating tincture, because it is mistaken for anything but it will be in alternate colors choice used. But the term has become common to the chagrin of some heraldist ( as a "swap " ) in ancient German.

The symmetry of the coat of arms images mistook favored colors, but is not a requirement. Almost every crest section and each herald image are suitable. This Tingierungsart is a very simple and effective presentation.
