Tingri County
Tingri ( Tib: ding ri, Tibetan: དིང་རི་རྫོང་, Dingri Dzong, Chinese定日 县; pinyin: Dingri Xiàn ) is a circle (Tib. = Dzong, Ch = Xiàn ) on the north flank of the Himalayas with importance for tourism and mountain sports such as mountaineering and mountain biking. It belongs to the administrative district of Shigatse in Tibet Autonomous Region, a 1966 set up by the People's Republic of China administrative unit. 1999 lived in Dingri Dzong / Dingri Xiàn 45 157 inhabitants. Capital and seat of county government is Shelkar (Tib. = zhal dkar, Ch =协 格尔Xiege'er ) and New Tingri, the 8,767 inhabitants ( 2000) counts.
Geography
The area of the circle Tingri is with an area of 10,000 km2, at an average altitude of 5000 meters. On the website of the district administration Tingris a current estimated population of about 50,000 is specified. Adjacent counties are Ngamring, Nyalam, Lhaze, Sa'gya and Dinggyê. In the south of the circle is the Tibetan - Chinese northern side of several eight-thousanders peaks in the Himalayas, as well as the built himself at an altitude of 5100 meters Buddhist Rongbuk Monastery. Valley and glacier of the same name, set the beginning of the ascent routes of Mount Everest dar. The Rongbuk Glacier is one of the three arms of the Tschomolangma.
Also, here is the highest natural or biosphere reserve in the world. In addition to the Rongbuk Monastery, Tingri, there is another significant Buddhist monk centers. Among other things, in Shelkar and Nanguo. By Tingri flows of springing in the neighboring district Nyalam Arun (Tib. = Bum- chu ) before it leaves Tibet towards Nepal.
