Titanium (IV ) bromide is an inorganic chemical compound of titanium selected from the group of the bromides.
Production and representation
Titanium (IV) bromide, can be obtained with hydrobromic acid by reaction of titanium ( IV) chloride.
Other ways to obtaining the reactions:
Very pure titanium (IV) bromide, can be represented by the reaction of lead ( II) bromide with titanium.
Properties
Titanium (IV ) bromide is in the form of amber, octahedral crystals. It is extremely hygroscopic, where it occurs in a hydrolytic decomposition of titanium (IV ) oxide and hydrogen bromide. After crystallization from the melt, its crystal structure is isotypic with tin ( IV) iodide, with space group PO3 ( A = 1130.0 pm ). When storing a conversion to the tin ( IV ) bromide type is done with the space group V2jc (a = 1017 pm, b = 709 pm, c = 1041 pm, β = 101.97 °).
Use
Titanium (IV) bromide, is used for the production of thin films of titanium disilicide on the silicon substrates.
