Tito Gobbi

Tito Gobbi ( born October 24, 1913 in Bassano del Grappa, † March 5, 1984 in Rome ) was an Italian opera singer with the voice baritone.

Tito was born in Bassano del Grappa and studied law at the University of Padua before he made a vocal training. He made his operatic debut in 1935 as Conte Rodolfo in Bellini's La sonnambula. In 1942 he first appeared at Milan's La Scala and Covent Garden in London in 1951 as Belcore in Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore Gaëtano on. Tito Gobbi was considered congenialer opponent of Maria Callas as " Scarpia " in Giacomo Puccini's opera Tosca. He was considered an excellent bel canto singer and talent for verismo ( naturalistic representation in the opera). With his wife, Tilda, he had a daughter named Cecile.
