Tlaquepaque

San Pedro Tlaquepaque, better known under the short name Tlaquepaque, is a city and administrative center of the municipality of Tlaquepaque in the Mexican state of Jalisco. During the 20th century, only a few kilometers southeast of the center of Guadalajara located suburb of the ever-expanding city was encircled and is now completely enclosed by it. Nevertheless, Tlaquepaque has its village character can keep.

The city center

Tlaquepaque is known for its arts and crafts of various kinds (including glass, ceramics and leather), which is produced here and offered in the many shops in the city center for sale. In the second block seen from here are the Independencia ( between the streets Alfareros and Francisco de Miranda ), the Museo Regional de la Ceramica ( the regional ceramics museum) and the Casa Histórica. History

The name Tlaquepaque derives from Nahuatl and means " place on loamy soil," was thus not by chance once a major pottery village. For a long time remained a sleepy little village of Tlaquepaque in the immediate vicinity of the city of Guadalajara. Its quiet location attracted during the 19th century to wealthy families who could build stately homes here. For these aristocratic circles out was designed in 1916 the football club CF Atlas, the social equivalent of the folk club CD Guadalajara formed over decades, which was launched in 1906 in a working class neighborhood of the neighboring big city to life. Many of the former mansions house restaurants, art galleries and other public spaces today.
